Abstract:
Today, with the increase in environmental issues such as the energy crisis, the waste and destruction of natural resources, and the increase in waste materials resulting from urbanization and industrial development, the impact of humans on the environment has also attracted the attention of researchers, because they consider many of these problems to be the direct and indirect consequences of human behavior (Mastarshedi, 2016). The spread of environmental threats has not only brought environmental issues, which were ignored by traditional theories of international relations for years, into the context of theories of international relations, but also the fluid and multifaceted nature of these issues has caused different theories of international relations to have different orientations towards these issues and their impact on international relations (Hariri et al., 2014).
The research method was descriptive content analysis and the data collection method was library-based. The research findings show that while in the past, under the influence of traditional theoretical approaches to international relations and the development of the concept of state-centered security, environmental issues were treated as an abstract whole in international relations; however, fundamental changes in global politics led to the recognition of the environment and its unpredictable and surprising consequences as one of the main issues of international relations.
