Abstract

Today, soil and water pollution with heavy metals is one of the most important environmental pollutants that has become a serious concern around the world. Heavy metals are trace elements, some of which, such as copper, cobalt, zinc, chromium and manganese, are essential in very small amounts as micronutrients for plants and animals, while some of them are not only essential but also cause numerous contaminants. Phytoremediation is an environmentally friendly method that can be used successfully for revegetation of Heavy Metal-Polluted Land. There are various methods for cleaning up heavy metal contaminated lands, most of which are expensive or have adverse effects on nature.  In the meantime, phytoremediation or green remediation technique is an environmentally friendly, cost effective and widely applicable method that can be successfully used in heavy metal contaminated lands to restore vegetation. This study investigates the concept of phytoremediation, its various strategies, the advantages and disadvantages of this method and the fate of plants used for phytoremediation
