Abstract

Protecting wetlands and the life in them requires recognizing the biodiversity of these. Waterfowl and shorebirds that are ecologically dependent on wetlands are used as environmental indicators. In this study, to study the species diversity of Poldokhtar wetland birds, census results were used for 13 years (2009-2021). In Poldokhtar wetlands, 9 orders out of 22 orders, 14 families out of 78 families and 56 species out of 545 species identified in Iran were counted and recorded, which were 40.90 percentage of the order, 17.94 percentage of the family and about 10.27 percentage of Iranian bird species have lived in Poldokhtar wetlands. The species VU, and oak, which are in the near-threatening (NT) category, were also observed and recorded. In general, Poldokhtar wetlands are the most important reasons for the high diversity of bird species in these habitats due to the diversity of habitats, diverse water depths and the presence of rich nutrients in the wetlands.
